What would you do with an extra $476 this year? I’m always looking for easy, fast (and clean) ways to make a little extra money. I’ve tried survey apps, mystery shopping, receipt uploads, and just about anything that doesn’t require me to send a photograph of my foot in strappy sandals to a stranger on the internet.
When I look for these easiest side hustles, I’m primarily searching for ones where the payout is worth the time required. In other words, it takes minimal or no extra time for me to get the reward. I also want the payout to be consistent and predictable. If I can’t understand how I will earn the reward or the value of the reward, I tend to pass on it. Lastly, I avoid anything that feels sketchy, risky, or unsafe.
I’ve compiled the best 4 side hustles I’ve found over the years for you. They are not going to make you rich, but they take minimal effort and have guaranteed payouts monthly or more often.
I make an average of $31.50 a month with the three I currently do. As I was writing this, I also wanted to see if I was missing any other easy side hustles. I polled my friends, and I’ve added the most promising idea to this list as well. I expect I could make an extra $8.33 per month with it, bringing my overall easy side hustle total to $476 a year.
Here are 4 of the best and easiest side hustles, listed in my rank order starting with my favorite.
- Credit card cash back, $13 monthly*
- Amazon shopper panel, $10 monthly
- Paceline, $8.33 monthly*
- High Yield Savings Account, $8.33 monthly*
*The payout on these easiest side hustles will certainly vary some month to month. These estimates are based on expected averages.

Credit Card Cash Back
What is a cash back credit card?
Cash back credit cards will match a certain percentage of your total spending on the credit card in the form of cash back or a statement credit.
What do you have to earn rewards on a cash back credit card?
This one is the easiest because once you have the credit card, it only requires that you use it to buy the things you normally would. Then pay off the balance in full each month.
In other words, use the credit card like a debit card and only spend money you have.
The catch occurs if you fail to pay off your credit card each month. If that happens, it’s like you took a loan from the credit card and usually the interest rates are high. (If you’ve seen the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, this is the situation Rebecca finds herself in.)
What is the reward on a cash back credit card?
It will depend on the cash back card you use. With my Discover card, I earn 5% cash back on select purchases that rotate each quarter. I earn 1% cash back on all other purchases.
This quarter it’s 5% on restaurants and paypal, last quarter it was gas stations and Target. The final quarter of 2022 will be on Amazon and digital wallets like Apple Pay. The 5% cash back has always been in a relevant category for me.
I always have the cash back bonus applied towards my next credit card bill.
I’ve earned $94.15 so far in 2022*, for an average of $13 a month. For more context, I spend about $400 a month using this credit card. This is the best of my easiest side hustles.
(For context, I wrote this 6 months into 2022.)
How to sign up for credit card cash back? (plus an extra $100 bonus from Discover)
I’ve been using my cash back card since 2020, and I have not found a better one yet. Here’s why Discover is my favorite:
- I haven’t found any other card that can beat the cash back match.
- There are no fees.
- Customer service is great, there’s fraud protection, the app is great. (I love that it analyzes my spending each month by bucketing them into categories.)
Ultimately, I make money using this card to buy the items I normally would.
If any of these benefits appeal to you, Discover also offers a $100 initial cash back bonus for new card members if they have a referral. If you want to learn more about the credit card, enter your email here and I can send you a unique referral link so you can get the $100 bonus offer. This is NOT sponsored by Discover. As a credit card member, Discover allows me to refer up to 5 friends with this offer. I enter your email using the referral portal on the app, and Discover will send you an email with the details. If you decide to apply and are approved for a card using my referral link, I will also receive a cash back bonus from Discover too.
Paceline
What is Paceline?
Paceline is a rewards app for working out.
What do you have to get rewards from Paceline?
You have to exercise for a total of 150 minutes each week. You must connect a smart watch like an Apple Watch or Fitbit because that’s how the app determines the minutes you’ve worked out. (Remember mind and body is a workout that you could be doing at any time…)
I love this because it’s a great way to simultaneously do something good for your health and wealth.
Paceline makes money when
What is the reward from Paceline?
The app pays out in gift cards or special offers weekly. The rewards start out small, but when you hit a 4 week streak, the payout is better. For example, in a typical week, I redeem a $1 Amazon gift card. On the fourth successful week of consistently working out 150 minutes each week, I always choose the $5 Target gift card. They also have an option for a $5 Starbucks gift card.
There also have other special offers you can redeem from health and wealth businesses. Those businesses pay Paceline for new customers they get through the app, which is how Paceline makes money and is able to pay you for working out.
For me, I’m working out anyway (or can do mind/body at any time), so it’s relatively easy and it adds up over time.
I’ve made $24 with this one in 2022. (I admit, I’ve missed a couple of months!) If I hadn’t missed any weeks, I would’ve made $50, which is about $8.33 a month.
How to sign up for Paceline?
Download Paceline from the app store to get started. If you want to help a girl out, consider using my referral code: 3T0ZCB.
Amazon Shopper Panel
What is Amazon Shopper Panel?
It is an exclusive panel for Amazon consumers. You can download the app and join a waitlist if there’s not currently room.
I joined last fall and was immediately accepted. My friend downloaded the app the other day and was placed on the waitlist. The waitlist is the reason I knocked this one lower in the ranking since it’s not accessible to everyone.
What do you have to do to earn rewards from Amazon Shopper Panel?
Be an Amazon customer and upload photos of 10 receipts monthly.
What is the reward from Amazon Shopper Panel?
If you upload 10 receipts for the month, you get $10 at the end of the month added as a gift card to your Amazon account.
Occasionally there are surveys on the app you can take for additional gift card rewards. Usually you can finish them in a minute or less.
I’ve made $61.75 so far in 2022. It’s a consistent $10 a month as long as you upload your receipts.
How to sign up for Amazon Shopper Panel?
Download the Amazon Shopper Panel from the app store and follow the instructions on the app.
High Yield Savings Account
What is a High Yield Savings Account?
A high yield savings account (HYSA) is a type of savings account typically with higher interest rates than a regular savings account.
What do you have to do to earn with a HYSA?
It depends on the HYSA but essentially you have to open an account and keep money in it. The financial institution then pays you interest for banking with them.
Depending on the account, sometimes there are fees, like monthly fees. I always avoid fees whenever possible.
What is the reward?
This will depend on two things: 1) the account interest rates and 2) the amount of money you deposit into the account.
At the time of writing, interest rates are up to 1%!!! Before I had difficulty finding accounts with rates above .08%, so I’m considering this a win.
The rates are high enough now to make me consider a HYSA for my savings, where in the past I didn’t find it worth the effort.
A HYSA is exceptionally great for money you were already planning to keep in savings. This would include an emergency fund, savings for a home down payment, wedding, vacation, buying a business, etc. In other words, it’s good for money you plan to use in the short/medium term.
If you deposit $10,000 into a HYSA, then you would earn about $100 in a year, or about $8.33 a month.
Shoutout to my friends for sharing this easy side hustle! I’m going to add this one to my list. This is only #4 on the list because I haven’t done it yet. I suspect after doing it, I will bump this one up to #3 because it will require less effort than Paceline.
How to sign up for a HYSA?
I am using NerdWallet to compare different HYSA options. You can check out their recommendations too here.
