How To Live Your Best Life

Live your best life. This is your sign.

Live the life you most desire. This is a mantra you will see a lot here, but what does living your best life really mean? Let’s say your life is like a map. Where are you at now and where do you want to be? Think of your ideal destination as being your goals in life. There are many paths you can take to get there, but it is important to know where you want to go, so you can start going in the right direction. This post will give you steps you can take now to figure out what the life you most desire would be like.

Here’s a free planner you can download to follow along and determine what the life you most desire is like.

Exercise 1: Current Life

Think about your life as it is now. Reflect on these questions and consider writing down your answers:

  • What are your goals?
  • Who is in your life?
  • What is your job?
  • Where do you work?
  • How do you work?
  • What do you do in your free time?
  • How do you feel?
  • Where do you live?

Exercise 2: Values

What do you value most? Pause here for a second and listen to what immediately comes to your mind.

I challenge you to be honest with yourself. Answer based on what is truly important to you, not what you think should be important to you.

If you want to see some examples of values, here is a list of some. It’s possible that you can think of many things you value. For this exercise, it is most important to determine your top three values.

List of common values

Once you’ve determined your top three values, write them down. From here on out, they will be the ones you want to consider and prioritize when you are considering the life you most desire.

Before moving on to the next exercise ask yourself, does your current situation align with your values? If not, what is lacking?

Exercise 3: Improve Your Life

Now I challenge you to imagine a different life. You can change or keep anything the same as your current situation you want. The goal is to make any tweaks, big or small, to improve your current situation. Reflect on the same questions, but also ask yourself, what is lacking? See if you can come up with any ideas that would improve your situation.

Exercise 4: Plans for $1 Million

If you received one million dollars today, what would you do? Do not consider what you would buy, but really focus on what you would do. Take a few moments to consider this.

Now, what is holding you back from doing that now? Do you really need a million dollars to do that? Why can’t you do it now? One of my favorite college professors asked the entire class that question. Every person shared a goal that did not require a million dollars to accomplish.

Exercise 5: Dream Life

For this last exercise, let go of the ideas you already listed about your life. Think of this as a blank slate.

If you could be living absolutely any life anywhere in the world, what would that look like? No one else will see your answers, so dare to be bold. What would your life be like if you could live out your dreams? Or what would you be doing if you didn’t have any other responsibilities?

You can also reflect on the same questions from earlier as well. What are your goals? Where do you live? Who is in your life? What do you do in your free time? How do you feel?

Bonus Exercise & Final Thoughts

My hope from these exercises is that you can envision multiple paths where you enjoy them all! Just like the map, the goal is the first step to achieving your goals. The final question I want to leave you with, is why can’t you have it all? Since all three lives you envisioned are great, how can you combine aspects of them all to make your dreams your reality?

Now that you know what the life you most desire would be like, the next step (and next post) will cover taking action to start living the life you most desire, now.

If you are ready to live your best life, share this with your friends so they can too!
